New Trailer for The Bad Batch with Suki Waterhouse, Jason Momoa & Keanu Reeves

The Bad Batch Trailer - Suki WaterhouseAfter premiering at Venice last year, and going on to make appearances at Toronto and then Fantastic Fest, the anticipated dystopian love story The Bad Batch is finally about to make its way into cinemas.

The film marks the return of Ana Lily Amirpour, who made waves with her feature debut A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night three years ago. I was personally hoping for a little bit more with Amirpour’s debut. For me, it was good but not great, and I was really hoping for something great. With The Bad Batch, I’m still hoping for something great, but I’m a little more cautious this time around. The ingredients are definitely there, so here’s to hoping Amirpour has made magic. This new trailer’s certainly got potential.

Set in the scorching vistas of a hostile desert, THE BAD BATCH focuses its lens on Arlen (Suki Waterhouse) as she is unceremoniously dumped in a dystopian wasteland fenced off from civilized society. While trying to orient her unforgiving environment she is captured by a savage band of cannibals and quickly realizes she’ll have to fight her way through her new reality. As Arlen adjusts to life in ‘the bad batch’ she discovers that being good or bad mostly depends on who you’re standing next to.

Suki Waterhouse is front and centre this time around, playing the lead for the first time, after appearing in the likes of Love, Rosie and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Jason Momoa stars opposite, with support from Giovanni Ribisi, Keanu Reeves, Jim Carrey, and Diego Luna.

Amirpour is once more directing from her own script, and she’s got past collaborator Sina Sayyah (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night) producing alongside Danny Gabai (Author: The JT LeRoy Story). Three-time Oscar nominee Megan Ellison (Her, American Hustle) serves as executive producer, and her Annapurna Pictures is one of the production companies behind this project.

Netflix picked up SVOD rights to the film right after its premiere at Venice. Cineastes among you can rest easy though, because recently-founded distributor Neon is still giving the film a theatrical release in the States. Neon released their first film, Colossal, in cinemas stateside last weekend with a great per-screen average, so hopefully The Bad Batch will continue their successes in the summer.

The Bad Batch hits US cinemas on June 23rd. It kicks off with a limited release, and will be expanding in successive weeks. No word yet on if it will be getting a theatrical release in the UK.
